Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope this is the year where happiness and joy are part of your everyday existence. And in the moments where it can’t be happy and joyful, I pray you have the tools to successfully navigate tough situations. I hope your perseverance is met with grace and understanding.
I am late to posting this, but posting it going into the new year felt timely. My niece, Alexis, and I had a little race over the Thanksgiving break.
A little backstory: Alexis suffered a T12 incomplete spinal cord injury in 2015. She has also undergone and beat breast cancer. Long story short, she is a kick ass, bad ass survivor whom I have so much respect for. She is such an inspiration to me.
We both need mobility assistance to get around. I use a rollator most of the time and wheelchair for long distances. Alexis mostly uses a wheelchair and is now venturing towards a rollator. Alexis, like me, tries to find the humor in life. Life can be pretty shitty, but nothing makes the enemy more upset than joy in your heart. So, we decided to laugh a little during the Thanksgiving break. With support and cheers from our family we took our rollators outside and decided to race.
Who do y’all think won?
Alexis whooped my arse! Then had the nerve to do a little twerk session at the end .
It brought me so much joy to see my niece and to see the joy she carries with her. I may be older, but she is such a fierce role model for how to handle life when it gives you its most bitter, sour lemons. Look at all the sweet lemonade she’s made. I love you, Alexis.
I hope this new year brings peace and joy for everyone. And in the moments where peace and joy feel elusive, I hope there is a spark of laughter you can hold on to.
As always, thank you for letting me share
